Explosion at Industrial Chemicals in West Thurrock

 Update: 2320 hrs

The incident was dealt with by 22:10 hrs. Crews have left the scene. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed. For further information, contact Industrial Chemicals.

Update: 2215 hrs

SAFETY experts down at the scene of an explosion at a chemical company in Stoneness Road which occurred earlier this evening have declared the area safe and there is no longer any danger to the public.

There is one employee who is being treated for minor injuries but otherwise no other injuries to anyone at the scene.  The cause of the explosion will be investigated by the relevant authorities.

Update: 2120 hrs

Report from the Essex Fire and Rescue Service states that they are attending at the Industrial Chemicals Site at Oliver Road in West Thurrock.

Six units have attended initially.

Police say no reports of any injuries but residents advised to stay indoors.

THERE are reports of a large explosion in the West Thurrock area.

Sources in Kent and Thurrock believe that the explosion, heard around 8.15pm came from near to the Thames.
