BASILDON and Thurrock Hospitals staff and local people rallied to help people in the Philippines hit by the devastating storm. An appeal for canned and dried foods, toiletries and hygiene products for the communities affected by Typhoon Haiyan received a huge response.
The appeal was coordinated by Sam Neville, Matron for Medicine, Don Bolonia, Ward Manager on the Frailty Unit, and Ric Tan, Charge Nurse in A&E.

The appeal resulted in enough produce to load eight pallets, which Ric arranged to be sent to the Philippines. He said: “I have been here 11 years and I feel part of the family at the Trust. The support and help we are getting from people really makes a difference.”
