BASILDON hospital has been working with Southend University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to develop a joint pathology service. This process is in its latter stages with the trusts announcing their preferred bidder to work with them to provide pathology services in south Essex.
Engaging this partner will allow vital investment and expertise to ensure that the service can meet the needs of both hospital requested pathology and primary care pathology for the present and foreseeable future.
Thurrock CCG’s contractual arrangement is with BTUH and this remains. The hospital can decide upon the model for delivering services providing they can reassure the CCG of their ability to deliver safe and effective services and to adhere to key performance standards and reporting times.
Dr Anand Deshpande, Chair NHS Thurrock CCG, said: “We feel that this opportunity has the potential to ensure a robust and high quality pathology service for local residents for many years to come. We look forward to working with BTUH on this exciting opportunity whilst ensuring that through our contract, BTUH fulfils our stringent standards to ensure that the service is high quality.”
