Inquest hears how South Ockendon woman died from anaphylactic shock after operation

AN INQUEST heard how a South Ockendon woman died of a brain injury after an operation at Basildon Hospital.

The inquest at Chelmsford Coroners Court heard that Kelly Louise Baker, then aged 29, underwent an operation on November 17th, 2013.

The court heard: "Kelly Louise Baker was anaesthetised prior to a necessary operation.

"Appropriate drugs were used in accordance with a thorough pre-anaesthetic assessment.

"Mrs Baker had a very rare and extreme anaphylactic response to Suxamethonium.

"Despite prompt, thorough and appropriate treatment ultimately her life could not be saved.

"On 20th November 2013 Kelly Louise Baker died at Basildon University Hospital in Essex of Hypoxic Brain Injury caused by anaphylactic shock from a hypersensitive reaction to Suxamethonium.
