THE colourful cast of Sleeping Beauty brought a touch of glitz and glamour to Basildon Hospital today (Thursday 19 November), when they joined staff and volunteers to officially open the refurbished children’s outpatient department.
Thousands of children visit the outpatient department each year for tests and treatment.
Thanks to £5,000 raised by local people on behalf of the hospital’s Polly Parrot appeal and a generous £2,000 contribution from the Basildon Hospital League of Friends, the waiting area and consultation rooms now have new furniture and toys and the walls are decorated with a jungle theme.
Rick Tazzini, director of finance at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals, said: “We would like to thank everyone who has raised money for the Polly Parrot appeal as every pound raised goes towards additional items to help cheer-up hospital visits for our young patients. And, of course, thank you once again to the cast of the pantomime at the Thameside Theatre, who are so supportive of our hospital. Their visits always bring a smile to the faces of patients, visitors and staff.”
Sleeping Beauty is running at the Thameside Theatre, Grays from Friday 4 December 2015 – Sunday 3 January 2016. Tickets are available from the box office on 0845 300 5264.
