Basildon Hospital’s A and E get new Christmas tree

WHEN staff in Basildon Hospital’s Accident & Emergency Department (A&E) found that the Christmas tree they were about to decorate was missing, they were left feeling less than festive. However, thanks to the goodwill of the local Homebase store at Mayflower retail park, their Christmas spirits have been lifted.

Paula Glenister, service unit manager for acute medicine, explains: “We had put the box with our Christmas tree in it to one side ready to decorate as time became available later in the day. The staff were so disappointed when they found it was missing, and just a few bits of tinsel and baubles remained.

“We are so grateful to our local Homebase who donated trees and decorations for each of our A&E areas. The trees have really brightened the department for the many patients and relatives who will come through over Christmas and New Year, and for our clinical staff and the ambulance crews.”
