A LITTLE celebrity sparkle was brought to Basildon University Hospital’s children’s wards as The Only Way is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh played santa for a local charity by handing out presents.
The Danny Green Fund brought sacks of gifts into the hospital on Christmas Eve to hand out to our younger patients. The charity used money raised by well-wishers, including Fay Pearce and Joanne Drignan (pictured above) who raised £740, to buy presents for children at Basildon University Hospital, Great Ormond Street and Little Haven’s Hospice.
Clare Brooking, who arranged the Christmas Eve visit on behalf of the Danny Green Fund, said: “It is amazing to be able to do this and bring a little festive cheer to those young patients in hospital at Christmas. It was really nice of Lucy, to come along and help us out.”
Lucy, star of The Only Way Is Essex and owner of Lucy’s Boutique in Brentwood, said the visit had been ‘inspiring’. She added: “The nurses make it so cheery here. It’s a bit sad that the children are here for Christmas but they are well looked after, that’s for sure.”
