STEPHEN Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, was accompanied by members of the South Essex Gymnastics Club, when he visited the children’s ward at Basildon Hospital to deliver presents to the young patients.
Mr Metcalfe attended the hospital bearing gifts from his annual Christmas toy appeal. Amongst the members of the gymnastics club was Max Whitlcok, the first man to win a gold medal for Great Britain at the World Gymnastics Championships.
Mr Metcalfe said: “Once again the generosity of the people of Basildon has overwhelmed us. This is by far the most successful appeal we have done so far and I am delighted that through that support we are able to bring a little bit of joy and happiness to children who find themselves in hospital over Christmas.”
Max Whitlock said: “It’s good for us to visit hospitals especially around Christmas time – we don’t get the opportunity to do it a lot. Hopefully it gives the children a boost and they are able to look forward to the New Year. We wish them all well.”
