BASILDON and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTUH) is expecting some disruption to services today (February 10) after the British Medical Association confirmed that industrial action by some junior doctors will go ahead from 8am on Wednesday 10 February to 8am Thursday 11 February.
Junior doctors will be providing emergency cover. This replaces the full walkout which was originally planned.
We are developing detailed plans in order to manage any impact that this industrial action will have on our services and to ensure that patient safety is maintained throughout this action.
We expect to run all emergency services for patients along with other urgent care such as cancer, cardiac, maternity and dialysis.
However there is likely to be some impact to some inpatient elective procedures and some outpatient clinics.
If there are any changes to an appointment that you have scheduled at our hospitals on any day of action, we will contact you. If you do not hear from us, please assume your appointment remains unchanged.
We have tried and tested plans to deal with a range of disruptions including industrial action and these will come into force on the three days in question.
As always, we ask patients who are unwell to choose the most suitable service for the treatment they need, such as pharmacy or GP. Please only use our A&E in an emergency.
