Golden Oldies hour at Basildon Hospital

PATIENTS at Basildon Hospital will be able to get in the mood with some well-loved tunes of yesteryear, in a special hour on hospital radio dedicated to Golden Oldies.

The new show on BHR 1287am will be on air between 2-3pm Monday to Friday, and feature music from legendary artists including Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Glenn Miller, George Formby and Flanagan and Allen.

Golden Oldies Hour is part of the hospital’s dementia project to support patients living with the condition.

Jane Gilby, dementia lead nurse, said: “There is loads of research that shows music is

very powerful in ‘unlocking’ the brain for people living with dementia

“But the Golden Oldies Hour will also enjoyed by all our patients, and anyone who remembers their parents playing these songs.”

Jacqui James, BHR presenter and chair agrees: “My mum used to play the piano and encourage us to sing along and these songs have a real feel-good factor.

“Patients choose the music we play and every week we get requests for these sorts of tunes, but now with the Golden Oldies Hour there will be a time people know they can hear them.”
