Cancer survival stores to be told at Basildon Hospital

A GROUP of people who have been successfully treated for different types of cancer at Basildon Hospital will offer support, advice and encouragement to patients and visitors at a cancer survivors’ day.

The event will be held in the Macmillan information area in the main outpatient department of the hospital, on Thursday 16 June, from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

Cancer nurses and support staff from Macmillan and the hospital will also be on hand to talk to people about signs and symptoms to be aware of, available treatments and supportive care.

Emma Chaplin, Macmillan lead cancer nurse, said: “An increasing number of people are surviving cancer and we are keen to spread the word about the latest cancer care developments.

“A number of patients who have survived cancer have kindly agreed to come and share their stories, and it will be very helpful for people to hear their first-hand experiences.”
