Heart patient donates work to Basildon hospital

A HEART patient has kindly donated a painting of the Colne Estuary to Colne Ward at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC), where he received care following his surgery.

Artist Charlie Johnson, who lives in Mistley (just outside Manningtree), underwent a successful triple heart by-pass in May this year. He was so impressed with the treatment he received that he decided to donate one of his works to the CTC.

Charlie explained: “I cannot commend highly enough the treatment and care that I received from my surgeon (Mr Nikolaos Charalabous) and all the staff of Chelmer and Colne Wards. As I am an artist I wished to demonstrate my gratitude by donating a painting. I painted the Colne Estuary as viewed from Fingringhoe Wick in November, so it seemed appropriate to offer it to the CTC.”

The painting is now displayed on Colne Ward critical care unit, where patients receive care immediately following an operation.

Danny McCormack, CTC service manager (surgery), said: “It is always nice to see patients when they are recovering well following their operation, and we are delighted with the painting. We have already put it on display in Colne Ward, in an area where relatives can view it.”
