The M25 in Essex/Kent is experiencing severe delays clockwise due to an ongoing incident involving a car and a HGV near the QE2 Bridge which has closed 1 lane on the main carriageway at J1B. The exit slip road to J2 (A2) is also closed as a result. Traffic wishing to join the A2 may still access the A2 by exiting at J1B, travelling across the roundabout and re-joining the link road to the jcn with the A2 at J2.

As a result of the incident the HGV has ruptured its fuel tank and spilt a large amount of diesel damaging the road surface which requires emergency resurfacing. Lane closures will be required throughout this evening’s peak period to enable this to be carried out. Severe congestion is affecting journeys southbound at the Dartford Crossing.

Traffic approaching the M25 from Essex, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire travelling to Surrey and Kent is advised to use the M25 anti-clockwise to reach these destinations and allow plenty of extra time for journeys.

Drivers are advised to consider alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys due to the closure of 2 lanes on the clockwise M25 at junction 1b in Kent following an earlier incident.

A road traffic collision resulted in the rupture of a fuel tank leaving a large amount of diesel on the carriageway which requires resurfacing. It is expected that the closed lanes will only reopen after the peak traffic period this evening.

Congestion is affecting journeys southbound at the Dartford Crossing.

Highways England is working hard to reopen the road as soon as safely possible and is advising drivers to consider alternative routes or to allow extra time for their journey.
