THE Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals (BTUH) Excellence Awards are on the horizon and we want our patients to nominate a member of staff who has gone above and beyond for the special Hospital Hero crown.
Last year’s winner was Clare McGuire, who was nominated by Nicki Storey (pictured above right) on behalf of her sister Julia and dad Michael, for the care she showed their family.
Nicki described Clare as “a little angel” who looked after them all as her mum Mary’s health deteriorated and she sadly died in November 2015.
The entry was one of 60 heartfelt entries received by judges and this year we want to hear even more.
Danny Hariram, director of workforce and organisational development, said: “We know that every day there are examples of our staff going above and beyond the call of duty to provide excellent patient care.
“It’s no secret that the NHS has been under extreme pressure, our staff work hard every day to provide safe, caring treatment to our patients. The wards receive thank you cards all the time. Well now we’re asking anyone who was pleased with the care they received from our staff, to nominate them for a Hospital Hero award.
“It won’t take much of your time but could mean the world to the person you nominate.”
All those nominated will receive a letter informing them of their nomination. The winner will be announced at a special awards evening being held at Stock Brook Manor, Billericay in April.
Clare said she was honoured to be nominated, let alone win the coveted Hospital Hero award. She said: “At the end of the day, I was doing my job, as I am sure every nurse would have done in the same position. But it is still really nice to be recognised for the job that you do.”
The closing date for nominations is Monday 27 February 2017.
