TWO specialist liver nurses at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals have been jointly nominated for a national award.
Lyn Porter and Sarah Tarff, both specialist liver nurses, were shortlisted to the final three entries for hepatology liver nurse of the year at the 2017 British Journal of Nursing awards.
They were nominated by Dr Gavin Wright, gastroenterologist consultant, who outlined everything Lyn and Sarah have achieved, including the Fibroscan project and working closely with St Luke’s Hospice to support patients with long term liver conditions.
The winner will be announced at a special awards ceremony held on Friday 10 March at Shakespeare’s Underglobe in London.
Sarah said: “It’s a real privilege to be nominated but also that someone made the time to put forward the nomination, for doing something that we feel is just our job.”
In the nomination form, Dr Wright wrote: “Patients and carers receive an exemplary level of individualised and personal care, providing continuity, delivery of best-practice and access to novel innovations in liver care and all with an understanding and compassion that can only be applauded and admired. The growing reputation of our broadening liver service is built on the drive and devotion of our nurses who simply enjoy their job and are the greatest advocates for our patients and their carers.”
