BASILDON and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTUH) is pleased to welcome Clare Culpin as managing director.

Clare joins BTUH from Kettering General Hospital Trust where she worked for more than four years, most recently as acting chief executive.

Clare will have responsibility for direct operational management at the Trust, and be part of the joint management team of the three hospital trusts in the Essex Success Regime – Basildon, Mid-Essex and Southend.

Clare said: “I am delighted to be joining Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals at what is undoubtedly a challenging but exciting time both for the Trust and the NHS across mid and south Essex.

“The staff here have been working incredibly hard in recent years to improve services in our hospitals. I am looking forward to working alongside them to ensure that we continue to offer real excellence in care for local people.”

A trained nurse, Clare has worked both in hospital and community services in the UK and overseas. Her first leadership role was as matron at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in London before moving into practice development and infection prevention and control for University College London Hospitals and local primary care trusts.

She has held a number of senior roles including director of nursing and quality, and director of strategy and corporate governance.
