THE IT department has been commended for their response to the NHS cyber-attack with an excellence award from their colleagues at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals.

Representatives from the department collected their award on behalf of the 30-strong team, at the Trust’s daily morning meeting.

Clare Culpin, managing director, presented the award and thanked them on behalf of all their colleagues across the hospital.

She said: “The quick, calm response from the IT team protected the Trust’s computer systems from possible damage from the cyber-attack.

“When the alert was raised, the team swung into action and contingency plans already in place were initiated. Their swift response and subsequent hard-work to get the hospital systems back online safely, was fantastic and we all owe the team many thanks.”
