Youth band marches on thanks to container donation from Mobile Mini
An award-winning youth band is marching on thanks to the donation of a secure storage container.
After being evicted from its premises, St Michael & All Angels steel orchestra, crowned Best Steel Band on the Road at the London Notting Hill Carnival 2016, urgently required storage for its steel pan musical instruments and other musical equipment.
Given only three weeks to find alternative storage, St Michael’s Youth Project (SMYP), which runs the orchestra, approached Mobile Mini, a leading hirer of portable site accommodation and secure storage containers, and was delighted to be told they could receive a storage container free of charge through its community involvement programme.
Part of the Stonebridge community for the past 20 years, St Michael’s Youth Project (SMYP) has grown from a Saturday music programme, to running 365 days a year and has worked with over 250 children. The project aims to raise the self-esteem and self-worth of children and young people aged 8 to 25 years, through educational, musical, recreational, personal development and leadership activities, in order to improve their life chances and better prepare them to recognise opportunities and take advantage of them when they arise.
“Mobile Mini really has provided a ‘shelter in a time of storm’ for us, as having the container means after months of uncertainty, we are slowly putting things back in order and we have somewhere safe and secure to store our equipment and instruments,” said Candice Falconer, SMYP worker.
“We contacted the Company because of the great service and quality containers it provides, in addition to its community involvement programme which has enabled our survival in what has been a difficult time for us.”
Mobile Mini, with 16 branches throughout the UK, including one in South Ockendon, London, runs a successful Community Involvement Programme which offers free of charge container hire to non-profit or voluntary organisations. For a worthy cause, all its UK branches can donate up to ten containers a year, at no cost, for up to six months hire.
About the donation to St Michael’s Youth Project, South Ockendon Sales Executive, Stuart Watkins, said: “Community involvement is an integral part of our business, so we were delighted to be able to help out Candice and the children.
“St Michael’s Youth Project is such a great cause and we wish the orchestra the best of luck at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival.”
