Drivers are advised that the A282 Dartford Crossing QEII Bridge is closed due to a serious road traffic collision.

Highways England traffic officers are working alongside Kent Police to clear the incident which happened just after 4am this morning.

Traffic is being diverted by using a contraflow through the Tunnels. Southbound traffic is being diverted through the East Tunnel and Northbound traffic will continue to use the West tunnel at the Dartford Crossing.

Although two lanes are open in each direction and a contraflow in operation through the tunnels delays in the area are severe and drivers are encouraged to check conditions before they set out and plan their journeys to avoid the area if possible.

The crossing is expected to remain closed throughout the morning. Highways England is working hard with the police to reopen the road as soon as is safe to do so; this will probably be into the afternoon.

Further information:

All trapped traffic was released by 8am. There is nobody stranded on the road.

Signs and signals have been set across the network to warn drivers on approach that there are delays ahead, and we are publishing updates on social media as well as continually providing information to traffic news providers.

This is a serious incident, and it’s important that the police have the time they need to complete a thorough investigation. We are standing by so we can fully reopen the road without any delay when the police have finished their important work.
