Basildon Hospital hold Christmas Carol Concert

PATIENTS at Basildon University Hospital had their spirits lifted when staff took them from the wards to join in a carol concert in the restaurant. They joined an enthusiastic audience of over 100 visitors and staff to raise their voices in a performance of traditional favourites including Oh Come All Ye Faithful and Silent Night.

The service of carols and readings was threaded together with the story of a pilgrimage trip from Canvey to Jerusalem read by hospital chaplain David Bates, with seasonal readings by Donna Pieper, Macmillan counsellor, Jane Mansaray, staff nurse, Dani Mayo and Linda Peall, chaplains.
The hospital choir turned in a rousing performance that had the audience singing merrily along, accompanied by local multi-instrumentalist Denis Fox on piano-accordion and euphonium.

There was even a brief display of Christmas ballroom by two members of hospital staff who couldn’t resist a quick spin around the floor to the closing number.
The afternoon was rounded off with thoroughly festive mince pies, tea and coffee.
