A little TLC for the carers
THE unsung heroes who take on caring responsibilities for relatives and friends are invited to enjoy some pampering and support at an event held at Basildon University Hospital on Monday 22 January, 11am to 3pm.
Carers can take advantage of some free relaxing therapy sessions from qualified practitioners, including reflexology, Indian head massage and Reiki. Dog-lovers will also enjoy meeting some fellow carers of the canine variety, from the charity Pets as Therapy.
There will also be lots of information and advice about support available for carers from organisations including Age UK, Provide, Community Agents and many more.
The event is being run by Action for Family Carers, which works with other charities and organisations, including Basildon Hospital, to support carers in Essex.
Carers are invited to visit the Action for Family Carers stand in main reception at the hospital, where they can register, find out more about support available in the area and collect a ticket for a pampering session. Spaces are limited so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Karen Forbes, carers hospital liaison and support worker, said: “It can’t be said often enough what a huge contribution is made by all the people who care for others for no wages and often no recognition.
“This event is a way of letting them know about support and advice available, and we hope the small gesture of some therapy sessions will help make them feel appreciated and cared for.”
