Statement from Basildon Hospital
“WE have plans in place to ensure we continue to provide safe services during adverse weather conditions. Staff have made great efforts to get to work, but there are some disruptions to our services.
We have postponed non-urgent, planned operations today and notified all patients affected. We will contact them as soon as possible to rearrange their operation. Patients who have planned operations tomorrow and Friday have been contacted – a small number have chosen to postpone their operation as they will find it difficult to travel.
Those who are attending have been warned there is a possibility they may be postponed, but we will try to avoid this and will let them know as soon as possible.
Emergency and cancer operations are going ahead as planned.
Physiotherapy outpatient appointments have been postponed, patients have been notified and will be rebooked as soon as possible.
Some patients are unable to make it in for outpatient appointments, but very few have been postponed.
We would urge patients to not attend A&E unless absolutely necessary. There are other health services available, where non-urgent medical issues can be dealt with more quickly such as your local pharmacist, GP, by visiting www.nhs.uk or calling 111 for advice.
