Specialist dietician to talk on IBD at Basildon Hospital

A SPECIALIST dietitian at Basildon University Hospital will speak to people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and how what they eat can affect their condition and quality of life.

Astrid Burrows, (pictured) is the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Basildon and Thurrock IBD Support Group, which offers advice to fellow sufferers in a friendly setting.

Astrid explains: “Food can have a large effect on IBD symptoms, recovery from a flare up and prevention of worsening symptoms. There many sources of information on this, however not all advice is reliable. For individual, tailor-made advice it is best to see a specialist gastroenterology dietitian.”

Stephen Bonnington, chair of the support group, said: “We are delighted to welcome back Astrid Burrows to our May meeting. Astrid has been a great supporter of our group and her presentations on aspects of diet are always well received.

“This is the area that we get asked most about by those attending our meetings and as always Astrid will be more than happy to answer questions.”

The meeting takes place on Tuesday 15 May, at 6.30 – 8pm, in the education centre at the hospital.

Refreshments (50p) will be available at the talk and a fund-raising raffle will be held. Parking in the hospital multi-storey car park is free for guests. For more information, email: basildonibdgroup@btinternet.com
