HEALTH authorities have revealed how the services currently operating out of Orsett Hospital will be distributed across four new centres built across Thurrock.

The Integrated Medical Centres are set to be built in Purfleet, Grays, Tilbury and Corringham and between them they will divide up or share medical services.

According to plans revealed by the council, all four centres will house a GP practice, community heart failure clinic, community diabetes, pulmonary rehabilitation, home oxygen services, and contraception and sexual health.

NHS health checks, smoking cessation, adult mental health services and phlebotomy services will also be available across all four centres.

However, Grays will be the only location to deliver hospital services, including X-ray facilities, renal wards, a minor injuries unit and eye treatments.

The majority of other services will be shared across two centres, with Grays and Tilbury being home to catheter clinics, physiotherapy and continence services.

Purfleet and Tilbury will deliver drug and alcohol treatments.

During a council meeting on October 10, Tom Abell, deputy chief executive of the Basildon and Thurrock Hospital Trust, also promised that blood tests will be made available at a GP practice in Orsett once the hospital has closed.

He said: “We looked at what people who live in Orsett use the hospital for and the overwhelming majority said it was for blood tests.

“So as part of the work we have done we have engaged with the local GP surgery and secured some extra investment and it is currently expanding and will provide a phlebotomy offer out of the GP practice there.”
