THURROCK Council’s Adult Social Care Team won the bronze Community Focus award for their Micro-Enterprise scheme at the IESE Public Sector Transformation Awards last week, Wednesday 4 March.

As part of the transformation programme Adult Social Care initiated the Micro-Enterprise scheme, which aims to increase the choice of support, care and health related services for local residents.

The scheme supports local people to set up voluntary and paid services which local residents can then use to support their own health and well-being.

Cllr James Halden, Portfolio Holder for Adult and Children’s Social Care, said: “The Micro-Enterprise scheme brings together many local partners including: Thurrock CVS, Basildon Hospital and St Luke’s Hospice to develop services that will meet the needs and aspirations of local residents by offering bespoke support, tailored to the individual. It is also a great opportunity to support local people to enter employment.

“The scheme, now in its fourth year, has supported the set-up of nearly 120 broad-ranging services from care and support services at home to gardening, community counselling services and dog walking.

“This is a wonderful achievement for the service and my thanks goes out to all officers and partners involved.”
