COVID-19: Nine patients sadly die with coronavirus at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital in 24 hours

NINE patients have sadly died with coronavirus at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital in 24 hours, the latest figures from NHS England released this afternoon (Monday 20 April) show.

189 patients at the hospital have sadly died with the virus, meaning it remains the worst-hit hospital in the county and one of the worst-hit in the whole of the East of England.

The figure for cases of coronavirus in Thurrock has risen by one, there are 218 cases confirned currently that figure is expected to be updated later today (Monday 20 April).

The number of coronavirus deaths in hospitals in and around Essex has sadly risen to 950, a rise of 21 on yesterday’s figure.

750 are confirmed to have died in Essex hospitals, with the remaining 200 coming close to the county’s border however please aware the figures do not take into account other parts of the community.

Figures at this time only show coronavirus-related hospital deaths.

Official figures for care homes are yet to be released.
