Six patients have been sadly confirmed to have died from coronavirus-related causes in the last 24 hours at Basildon hospital – bringing the total to 217.
The figures show there are 2,202 confirmed cases in the Essex County Council region and 275 cases in the Southend-on-Sea area.
NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death in hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.
This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed and for data from the tests to be validated.
Figures at this stage only take into account coronavirus-related hospital deaths and not other parts of the community such as care homes.
Official figures for care homes are yet to be released.
Our thoughts are with those affected by the coronavirus.
