211 patients have sadly died with coronavirus at Basildon hospital

ONE cases of the coronavirus has been confirmed in Thurrock in the latest figures released by Public Health England yesterday (24 April), bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 245.

At Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital, 211 patients have sadly been confirmed to have died with the coronavirus, an increase of eight on the previous figure released.

This means sadly the hospital remains the worst-hit in the county by the coronavirus.

There was a significant jump in the number of cases across the UK with 5386 cases reported by Public Health England in the last 24 hours – a rise of around a thousand on the day before and the UK total number of confirmed cases is now 143,464.

Aross the UK’s hospitals an additional 684 deaths have been recorded – the total number of coronavirus-related patient deaths is now currently 19,506.

Please note even though these figures were released yesterday, they only take into account data leading up to 5pm on Thursday (22 April).

When there is a wide difference in figures in consecutive days it sometimes be because of how deaths are being incorporated into historic data retrospectively.

Delays in reporting deaths can be attributed to delays in obtaining positive results, post-mortem outcomes, and for testing data to be validated.

Please note that figures only take into account coronavirus-related hospital deaths at this stage.

No official figures for care homes have been released.

Our thoughts are with all of those affected by the coronavirus.
