The tenth Thurrock Civic Awards scheme has been launched and this year Thurrock Council and its partners have come up with a new look, new award criteria and a new award.

Over the past 10 years there have been some marvellous examples of bravery, fortitude, self-sacrifice and sheer determination.

The Civic Awards are Thurrock people’s chance to make sure those who work tirelessly and selflessly for the good of the community get the recognition they deserve.

There are now eight categories – to celebrate those people who go the extra mile to change the lives of Thurrock people for the better.

Cllr Val Morris-Cook who chair’s the Civic Awards panel, said: “These awards are for our local heroes, chosen by us, the people of Thurrock.

“If you know of anyone who deserves one of the awards, make sure they get the respect they deserve and nominate them now!

“Let’s put the pride back in the hearts of some very special Thurrock people and make 2011 a year to remember.”

The 2011 award categories are: Citizen of Thurrock, sponsored by Petroplus; the Young Citizen of Thurrock, sponsored by the Port of Tilbury; Business Award, sponsored by Thurrock Council; Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by RWEnpower; Sports Award, sponsored by the Thurrock Enquirer; the Leisure and Culture Award, sponsored by Morrison FS Ltd; the Rachel Middleton Memorial Award, sponsored by Econogas; and the Mayor’s Award, sponsored by the Port of Tilbury.

Nomination forms are available by emailing [email protected]; calling
