OVER 1,000 young Thurrock people had their heads buried in books on Thursday (3 march) at Thurrock’s Great Read in.
The borough’s libraries — in partnership with local primary schools — were hosting the event to celebrate World Book Day.
More than 1,000 children from 16 primary schools visited their local library to settle down and enjoy a good book between 2pm and 2.30pm.
In addition to the classes visiting their library, back at school everyone else were joining in, taking time to enjoy stories just for fun.
The Great Read in also launched Storyfest, a borough-wide schools’ festival celebrating story, story writing and poetry and running from March 14 to March 25 and including visits from the Bookstart Bear and three bedtime story events in local libraries.
Three schools visited Grays Library at the Thameside complex — Stifford, Thameside Junior and Little Thurrock.
