THURROCK Conservatives say they continue to focus on the local economy, getting the most from the Thames Freeport opportunities as well as steering the Town’s Fund to bring improvements in the borough.

Rob Gledhill, leader of the council, said: “Thurrock has reached a critical crossroads and this year’s election gives our residents the power to choose the future direction of this borough.

“Thurrock Conservatives have worked hard to deliver the largest freeport in the country that will bring £4.6bn of investment into the area plus over £300million of new business rates for the council to invest back into Thurrock. The Conservatives have also secured over £42m of investment from the Town’s Fund that will assist with improvements to Grays & Tilbury.

“Thurrock Conservatives have been working hard to help households across the borough cope with the cost of living increases, soon every Band A – D household will receive a £150 tax rebate.

“Last time Labour were in charge of Thurrock Council the deficit was £30m. An extra £115m in funding has been invested in Thurrock through the council’s investment policy.

“Our successful reform of Labour’s shambolic housing service has not only ensured that no Thurrock resident ever has to sleep on the streets of this borough. It also means that by the end of the year we will no longer need to use out of borough temporary accommodation placements. We achieved this all whilst saving taxpayers £1.8 million every year by ending our dependence on expensive privately rented temporary accommodation”.

“A party that opposes everything, stands for nothing and can’t present you with a credible plan for the future. Labour are banking that Thurrock residents have forgotten just how bad things got when they were last in charge.”
