Corringham: Man in hospital after assaulted in his own home

ESSEX Police is investigating an aggravated burglary in Laburnam Drive, Corringham, which was reported to shortly after 10am this morning, Thursday 6 April. 

It was reported that an armed man had entered a home and threatened the family inside. One man sustained a head injury and he’s being treated in hospital. 

Thankfully, one of the occupants was able to leave the home and alert police to the incident. The intruder then left the home. 

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and carried out a search of the area but no one matching the description of the suspect could be located. 

No arrests have been made at this stage and they’re following a number of lines of enquiry. 

A significant policing presence will remain in the area throughout the day as the investigation continues. 

DI Mark Gridley, who is leading our investigation, said: “We’re making good progress since this incident was first reported to us this morning. Most importantly, the family are now safe and they are being supported. 

“I would now urge anyone living in Laburnam Drive, Gifford Cross Avenue and Gifford Cross Road who has CCTV or doorbell footage of the area to get in contact with us. Specifically, we’d like to see footage taken in the area between 8am and 1pm.

“We believe we have identified a man of interest who was in the area at the time. 

“He was wearing a long green jacket, grey trousers and a beanie-style hat.”
