Bin collections set to change in Thurrock

FROM next Monday (8 April), bin collections are changing across Thurrock as alternate weekly collections are introduced, along with a subscription garden waste collection service.

It means that our waste crews will collect your grey or green general waste bin one week and your blue recycling and brown garden waste – for those that subscribe – the next.

All homes will have one day of the week as their collection day, and for the majority of homes that day will not change. More information about the new collection schedule can be found on the wheeled bin collection days page of our website.

Leaflets have been delivered to all houses in the borough outlining what the changes mean for you and providing a bin collections calendar for the next 12 months.

You can also check your collection day in our street-by-street web pages – select the first letter of your street name to check which collection round your home is on. If you have misplaced your leaflet an online version can also be viewed and downloaded, there are 10 versions so please check to make sure that you look at the right one for your road.

If you want to make sure that your brown bin garden waste collections continue you will need to sign up to the subscription service. More information and the link to sign up can be found on the garden waste collections page of our website.

  1. Most likely there will be an increase in fly tipping costing the council.nore. We are a family of five, and the bins will be overflowing with biweekly collection. New bigger bins, or weekly collections to remain. Quite simply, our household for one, will not have the capacity. Resulting in 23 round trips to the East Tilbury site. Or black bags pilling up all over the place. Which then, perhaps the rubbish truck / personnel will refuse to collect.

  2. If you pay for your brown bin and put it out on Sunday evening, those who have not paid will empty their garden rubbish in your bin.
The whole idea is stupid. The thing is not everyone has garden waste every week especially in winter. You should only pay when your bin is full.
