THE MP for Thurrock and the leader of Thurrock Council have clashed over funding for the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).

The MP went onto twitter as the Thurrock Council cabinet meeting was taking place to express her concerns re cuts.

    The tweet stated:

"Para 7.3 item 15 todays Cabinet meeting confirms intention of Council to axe all funding to Thurrock CAB. This is a disgrace."

The Mp then signposts her followers (1.557) to an article on the CAB website which details what the threat of closure could mean. ( For details go to: http://www.thurrockcab.org.uk/?page_id=43).

The actual item on the agenda reads:

Item 7.3: "Additionally, negotiations around the proposal to cease funding to Citizen’s Advice Bureau continue around how a re-structured service could be supported at a lower cost to avoid the closure of the service.

This is expected to be resolved in January 2015 and, as such will come back to Cabinet for agreement in February."

Council leader John Kent said: "As you can see negotiations are on-going on how to support the CAB at a lower cost.

"CAB has been hit by cuts to legal aid. Cuts supported by the Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle Price".

The leader also denied that the "negotiations" were part of a personal witch-hunt against the chief exec of CAB, Mike Rawlings.
