FOR the 21st consecutive year Corringham Thameside Rotary Club, alongside the Anniversary Fishing Syndicate, held their annual fishing day for special-needs children.

Sixteen children attended the event at the fishing lake in South Ockendon on Sunday 12th July, as the Rotary Club cooked burgers and hot dogs for the fishermen, children and their families.

Throughout the afternoon the fishermen taught the children basic fishing techniques, including handling the fish with care, and assisted them in catching over 200 fish.

Meanwhile members of the Rotary Club handed out food and drinks to those taking part and their families. At the end of the afternoon as the sun came out, every child received a trophy and the fishing club presented a cheque to the Rotary Club – proceeds of funds raised by them throughout the year.

Everyone had a great day at the event, which again was held in memory of Rotarian Clive Yallop who established the event 21 years ago. A number of regular faces returned including Alex Barr (pictured) who received his trophy from the club’s new President Albert Borgman.

Speaking at the end of the afternoon, Club President Albert Borgman said, “It is fantastic that as Rotarians we can work with the members of the fishing club again to provide a fantastic experience for these local children. A good day has been had by all, and I would like to thank the fishermen of the club for giving up their Sunday to teach the children how to fish.”
