Crews are currently tackling a fire at a derelict cottage in West Tilbury.

The cottage, which is in a row of three terraced properties, is 100% alight.

Both appliances from Orsett were first at the scene and firefighters requested the assistance of two further appliances from Grays, Basildon’s water tender and Basildon’s control unit.

A railways officer has been requested because the fire is in close proximity to the railway line and a structural engineer is assisting crews because there are concerns that the building could collapse.

Update 19:04hrs: Firefighters have used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. A thermal imaging camera was also used to check for hot spots. The fire was started deliberately.
