Fire at recycling centre in East Tilbury

ESSEX Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at a recycling centre in Station Road, East Tilbury this evening (Tuesday 2 December).

Update Wednesday 3 December 2.10pm: A crew attended the scene today at 8.20am to check the site was safe and left it in the care of staff. The cause has been recorded as accidental.

Update Tuesday 2 December 12:30am: The fire is out and firefighters are preparing to leave the site. A crew will revisit the site in the morning to check the site is still cool and safe. 

Update Tuesday 2 December 8pm: The fire is in a large pile of mixed metals. Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire.

A significant amount of smoke can be seen in the area, so we’re asking nearby residents and businesses to keep windows and doors closed.

Update Tuesday 2 December 10pm: Firefighters are still working hard to tackle the fire.
