THURROCK residents are being urged to register interest in getting Superfast Broadband as the borough signs up to a project to increase the reach of the speedy link.
In association with Essex County Council, Thurrock has committed to Superfast Essex Broadband which aims to enable 90 per cent of the population to receive superfast broadband by 2015.
Now approved by central government, plans can be put into action on selecting a service provider and allocating areas for upgrade.
Residents are being asked to register their interest in getting Superfast Broadband by completing a quick survey at: www.essex.gov.uk/ruralbroadband
Upgrade is not guaranteed but areas with the most residents registered stand a greater chance of being selected as one of the first areas for upgrade.
Cllr Lyn Worrall, Thurrock Council’s portfolio-holder for Transformation & Community, said: “This is a great opportunity to have your say about the provision of fast broadband services and I would urge everyone to complete the survey so their voice is heard. The more people who register the better chance of being one of those areas selected for the upgrade.”
Anyone without internet access can visit local libraries to use the computers for free. Library staff will be on hand to assist anyone that isn’t sure.
