You can imagine the scene. 15-year-old Katie-Jane Jarvis is having a row with her boyfriend near Tilbury Railway Station. A film producer is passing by (as they do) and thinks, that’s the star for their film. Naturally, when they approached Katie, she treated them with scepticism.
Filming took place around the borough last autumn and now Fish Tank is the toast of Cannes. The film is described as a tough depiction of life on the outskirts both geographically and economically.
Katie, now 17, has just had a baby and hasn’t travelled to the French Riviera. Infact she is proving hard to trace but perhaps that is all part of the story.
