THURROCK Council’s Planning Committee booted out a proposal to evict a traveller family from their Corringham home.
The committee learned that an enforcement notice had been in place since 1995 for the property in Parkgate Road but understood that the latest occupants had only been there for three years.
The report detailed a long history of unauthorised building and occupation on the land.
The Planning Inspectorate noted that the development represented “substantial harm to the Green Belt”
Chair Cllr Stuart St-Clair-Haslam said: “It doesn’t seem fair to enforce this notice after fourteen years.”
Council officers did point out that there may be legal implications to their decision.
