CARL MORRIS took a step closer to being selected as MP Andrew Mackinlay’s replacement to fight the parliamentary seat in May next year.
YourThurrock understands that the Chair of Thurrock Labour emphatically won every single ward in polling which took place on monday and tuesday.
Cllr Morris will now contest a straight run off on December 12th against several other candidates, all of whom are from outside the borough.
A source close to the Labour Group said: “We had some very strong candidates, both local and from outside but there is a general consensus that Carl is our best chance of defending the seat next year.”
Mr Mackinlay won the seat in 2004 with a majority of 6,375.
