THE MOTION to propose a vote of no confidence in Thurrock Council leader Garry Hague by fellow Tory councillor Anne Cheale has been made official.
Former leader and councillor for Corringham and Fobbing, Councillor Cheale’s motion states:
“That this Council has no confidence in the ability of Councillor Hague to perform the duties and to undertake the responsibilities of the Leader of the Council and also those duties and responsibilities of the Portfolio Holder for Planning.”
Cllr Garry Hague has responded with his own statement. He said: “I am extremely disappointed by this action, as is the Conservative Party. I have led Thurrock Council over the past year and it is making positive progress with many exciting projects for the benefit of residents in the pipeline. Only recently, the Audit Commission rated Thurrock as an improving council and it is one of the fastest improving councils in the country.
“I remain committed to playing a key role in driving forward Thurrock Council’s improvement journey and it’s role in ensuring that Thurrock realises it’s full potential for the benefit of our residents and those doing business here. Thurrock is going forward not backwards.”
More to follow
I wonder how much Council Tax ‘residents in the pipeline’ have to pay?
Especially with Thurrock Council’s ‘improvement journey’ going we know not where!
Is there an ulterior motive in Cllr Cheals motion of no confidence, is she battling for the position herself, all this will do is to set the local authority back even further whilst the vote is cast and if necessary the election of a new leader.
I will be interesting to see if Cllr Cheal bots her neame forward for leader
