BACK in the balmy days of July, Thurrock FC were tipped by most pundits (including this one) as one of the favourites to go down. They had a good start but we soon started to use the terms: “Flatter To Deceive”, “By autumn they will struggle” and “Punching above their weight”.
Here were are, with the league finishing next month and Thurrock are still fighting the good fight, lying just outside the play-offs with games in hand.
Boss Hakan Heyrettin is looking forward to their first game in ten days away against Bath City.
Hakan said: “It has been a bit of a gap since the Eastleigh game. You can imagine after winning 8-2 that the lads couldn’t wait for the next game. We have been training and keeping ourselves focussed.
“Bath have come on a great deal since we beat them in January. Unbeaten in eight and are one of the form teams.
“But it is a nice pitch down there in Somerset and should be an opportunity to play positive passing football.
“Reiss Gilbey is still out and Lee Flynn is a doubt but apart from that we are raring to go.
Thurrock play Bath City at 3pm at Twerton Park, Bath.
