New Plans For Pullman Tavern Site

PLANS have this week been submitted to Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (DC) for a major new investment into Grays Town Centre.

Specialist property company Renewal has designed plans for the Pullman Tavern site just opposite Grays Station incorporating 35 new apartments with new offices and a new bar and restaurant.

The Pullman Tavern building will be largely retained, with new buildings behind containing the offices and apartments of between three and six storeys. The retention of the existing building protects the setting of the nearby listed St Peter and St Paul’s Church and most of the new apartments will be ‘dual aspect’ with windows facing both East and West.

The plans support Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation’s Masterplan for Grays and will also include new affordable housing, both for rent and shared ownership for key workers such as nurses and teachers.

Speaking about the scheme, Richard Clements, Development Manager for Renewal, said:

“We believe these plans represents an important and high quality investment into Grays Town Centre and one which will support the regeneration of the wider area.

“The new apartments and offices will deliver fantastic living and working environments very near to the station, with private balconies, roof terraces and courtyard gardens for residents and a new landscaped communal garden open to all.

“We are also proud to have retained the frontage and main elements of the existing Pullman Tavern building which is a key local landmark. It will remain the entrance to a new bar and restaurant which I am sure will become a great new destination for local people as well as helping to keep this part of the town vibrant into the evening.”
