The Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Maureen Pearce, has written to her counterpart in Plock, Poland, offering condolences on behalf of Thurrock residents following the recent death of Polish President Kaczynski, his wife and other leading figures in a plane crash.

The letter, to M Milewski, Mayor of the City of Plock, states: “I am writing on behalf of Thurrock Council and the residents of Thurrock, particularly those from our Polish community, to offer our sincere condolences on the tragic death in the recent plane crash of President Kaczynski and his wife, along with the loss of so many leading figures from Polish society.

“This disaster has shocked and deeply saddened us all. Our thoughts are with the families of those who died in this terrible disaster. We send the heartfelt sympathies of our borough to you and to the nation of Poland.”

The council flew the Polish flag at half-staff last week outside the Civic Offices, New Road, Grays.
