Thurrock 3 v 6 Bromley

A disappointing end to what has been an exceptional season for Thurrock, it has been a true rollercoaster of a ride for all their supporters with the highs seeing them in second place at beginning of February, the 8-2 victory away at Eastleigh but since that win they have fallen to a final position of tenth, collecting only eleven points from a possible thirty nine.

The match itself was of poor quality, despite Thurrock starting well it was when Bromley took the lead in the fifteenth minute that their attitude changed and their confidence grew it looked as if Thurrock would struggle.

Bromley continued to threaten and in one such attack Kenny Clark tripped Butler inside the box on 25 minutes giving the visitors a chance to extend their lead from the spot kick, which Ashley Carew took and converted.

Thurrock tried to respond but it wasn’t working, the one time telepathic understanding of the players seemed to have gone and attack after attack broke down until just before the break when from a corner the ball found Leon McKenzie about 15 yards out, he turned and shot in one movement beating the keeper low down to his left.

In the second half we had an unexpected goal feast, mainly caused by poor defending by both teams but with Bromley scoring the majority. Although Thurrock did get back on level terms at 3-3 when McKenzie scored his second from the penalty spot, after he was brought down by Harrison Dunk, who was subsequently booked by the referee. Dunk was soon to make amends only seconds later when he raced to the edge of Thurrock’s penalty area and scored with a fine left foot drive.

Two late goals from Richard Butler finished off the game, leaving Thurrock to ponder on what could have been and reflect on what they could achieve next season with a little more effort and a little more from Lady Luck.

At the after match celebration Kenny Clark was voted the Fans Player of the Season.
