Baisakhi Celebrations

Thurrock Asian Association led the community celebration of the famous Asian festival of BAISAKHI at the Asian Resource Centre, Grays on sunday.

This festival signifies the beginning of the Hindu New Year and also the Birth of Khalsa-the Sikh Religion. It is celebrated as Harvest festival in many parts of India.

A number of representatives of local communities joined in the celebrations including local councillors. Cllr Eddie Hardiman, the Deputy Mayor of Thurrock was the Chief Guest.

He praised the efforts of the Asian Association in bringing various local communities together through such cultural events. ‘I appreciate the work of the Thurrock Asian Association in strengthening community cohesion through these cultural festivals’ said Cllr Edie Hardiman.

Cllr Yash Gupta President of the Association added,’ This evening’s celebrations have brought local communities together who appreciated the cultural participation and enjoyment.’

Mr Keith Mitra secretary of the Association concluded,’ This evening was full of joy and happiness which was the main message of this festival.’
The people enjoyed the singing ,dancing and variety of foods.
