FA Delay on Grays Athletic Decision

THE immediate future of Grays Athletic Football Club remains unclear after FA officials spent the delay deliberating on the troubled club.

After resigning from the Conference level of the FA non-league pyramid earlier this year, Grays were placed in the Essex Senior League by the FA’s League Committee but subsequently won an appeal and were told they would be placed at Step 3, which means a place in the Ryman Premier League.

However, the FA have subsequently asked for more information about the club’s management and status and a final decision has been delayed.

The club were asked to submit paperwork to the FA, which was considered today (Tuesday) and an announcement was expected this evening.

But an FA spokesperson told the Enquirer this evening that nothing would now be announced until Wednesday morning at the earliest.

The Ryman League appear to be as concerned about the delay as the club’s fans, with Ryman chairman Alan Turvey telling the Enquirer this evening that the League had heard nothing from the FA, despite their key management team being together for most of the day when they could have dealt with any decision and its implications.

“I’m afraid I have nothing to tell you,” said Mr Turvey. “We as much in the dark as anyone else at the moment and can only respond after we have heard from the FA.”

The Ryman are believed to have prepared fixtures with Grays in as an extra team and also without them.
