Youth Cabinet Elections At Chafford Hundred

The Mayor of Thurrock got into election mood when she visited Year 10 students at Chafford Hundred Campus in Mayflower Road.

Last year, during Democracy Week, councillors visited the campus for a Speed Dating event where students had a chance to ask questions.

The young people were so impressed they have been working hard on their portfolios for GCSE Citizenship and over recent months they have been setting up elections top help them understand the democratic process and elect two members of their year group to the Thurrock Youth Cabinet.

Six candidates stood for election and two were elected, Christel Ringermann and Ann-Marie Ola. They will be the school’s first representatives on the Youth Cabinet.

Mayor, Cllr Anne Cheale, was asked to come along on Monday and act as Returning Officer, making the declaration of the winners.

In all, 111 of the 150 Year 10 students voted in the poll.

  1. Anne Cheale is a great one to teach kids democracy. How to get elected as a tory but then do a deal with Labour and the BNP to put them into power and as a reward get made Mayor!

She could teach betrayal, double dealing and how to stab all your friends in the back.

Is the sole and only reason she left the tories and became a ‘concerned’ (confused?) conservative is because she didn’t want her old enemy Mike Revell as Deputy Mayor? Did she chuck all her toys out of the pram because she wasn’t going to be nominated as Mayor by the Conservatives this year?

I think we should be told.
