Aveley 1 v 1 Folkstone Invicta

ANOTHER Ryman Premier game and another draw for the Millers as Invicta came from behind to earn their first point of the campaign at Mill Field on Monday.

The game will not live long in the memory but both sides had their chances and both could have won it in the last ten minutes.

There was little to offer in the first half with the closest the home side coming to a goal being through Marc Gorbell, but the centre-half didn’t react quickly enough at the back post from Scott Pethers’ deep free kick.

Dead ball situations were going to be key throughout the game, and Gorbell also went close again, this time heading straight at Invicta keeper Jack Delo.

But the game livened up after the half time break. With little over a minute played Ryan Edgar put the home side in the lead with a stunning strike from outside the area with keeper Delo rooted to the spot.

Gorbell continued to prove a menace at set pieces and also went close again, but after 77 minutes another set piece proved vital for the visitors. Josh Burchell’s deep free kick into the box found striker Paul Jones and he flicked a header past Matt Bennett.

Both sides could have nicked it with Andy Howells being the Miller’ saviour with a last ditch dive blocking Liam Friend’s goal bound shot after the ball broke loose to Friend from a free kick.

But the best chance of the match fell to Aveley sub Steve Bourne as he raced clear of the defence but shot into the side netting with Ryan Edgar and Clydie Roberts unmarked and ready in the box.
